Hurricane Watching

I am glued to all media outlets listening for the reports of the adverse weather in the North Atlantic with the approach of the massive hurricane Sandy. According to the BBC news Forecasters fear Sandy will become a super-storm when it collides with cold weather fronts from the west and north.
This is the thing right out of the movies. It has been described as being around 500 miles across. Putting the sheer size of the storm into reference, something that size would completely cover the UK and Ireland and all the little islands in between. Also France, Germany Belgium Netherlands and Denmark with Norway and Sweden Spain and Portugal on the leading edges. WOW I have visions of the movie “The Day After Tomorrow” in my head now.
Quite frankly I am majorly concerned OK I AM worried for all my friends and acquaintances that are in its path. The winds alone could reach as far inland as Toronto, the rain has already reached there and the cold front thats has sat over the area is set to merge with the incoming storm.
To everyone I know on the Eastern coast of the USA and Canada, be safe, be well. I am thinking of you all

Date: 2012-10-29 03:21 pm (UTC)So far so good here in Maine. We've got high winds -- supposed to get way windier tonight and tomorrow so I'll probably lose power. :-(
The rain is just a drizzle right now, but it's really supposed to come down this afternoon and tonight into tomorrow morning.
South of us is what's supposed to really get hit hard: NY, Connecticut, Mass, New Jersey, the whole mid Atlantic region, not to mention the 2 feet plus of snow they're supposed to get in the mountains of West Virginia and surrounding areas.
We're used to what we call 'nor easters here in Maine, and this is what it's going to be for us. If it would have hit landfall just a bit more north, we'd be in a lot more trouble here.
I'm hoping to head down the beach right quick and take a few pics of the wave action. :-)
If you don't hear from me for a few days, power is out!
Later!
