It was announced today that the Olympic torch will visit Nottingham on its journey around the UK in June 2012.

The torch will stop overnight in the city on 28 June 2012, with Nottingham City Council hosting an evening of celebration. The torch relay will set off from the Robin Hood Statue at Nottingham Castle the following morning on its way to Derbyshire.

Some of the places the torch is to visit Newstead Abbey, Sherwood Forest, Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre in Edwinstowe, the National Watersports Centre, West Bridgford, Victoria Embankment in the Meadows where I grew up before heading for the overnight stop at the National Ice Centre at Nottingham Arena It will begin its journey to Derbyshire from the Robin Hood statue outside Nottingham Castle on 29 June.

I hope to be able to see it that day as it passes through my home

Thank you, I most certainly am excited, I couldn’t get tickets to the games themselves but I am looking forward to the torch relay.

I cant get the day off work but the time it will be passing close to where I can see it will be around 6pm – 6.30 pm 2 miles from where I work and I leave at 5.30 and that is a few roads from where my mum lives and I grew up.

My camera will be primed and ready, and if the city council has events in the city centre during the evening then I will attend them if I can and get as many pictures as I can.

Unfortunately, NOvosibirsk is deep in the country, too far from Sochi where the winter Olympics-2014 will take place ( I think it took 5 hours by plane when my hubby and I were there long ago)). The tickets and accomodation fees are too expensive and we will only have to watch events on TV or online.

Surprisingly travel down to London is very expensive when events like this take place, the transport companies cash in on the profits to be made, the accommodation will be sky high too.

Overall it will be too expensive although there are events and stuff happening all over the country. The GBR team is staying at Loughborough University just a few miles down the road from Nottingham

That's the rule of the game - they charge, we pay...

At least I will get to watch it on TV and get involved with events around the country

One of the Double gold medalists from the last olympics comes from Nottinghamshire in fact we had a few last time, sprint kayak, swimming, badmington.

Swimmer Rebecca Adlington has been named in the team for Julys games so far Im not sure about Dr Tim Brabant I know he often canoes on the River Trent.

Only 59 team members have been named so far.
