I could not believe it when yesterday I watched in absolute horror as my lovely big 32GB Sandisk micro SD card in my smart phone failed.

For the last week the phone was media scanning the card a little more frequently than usual and I did a little research online as to whether I should be concerned but all I was able to discover was that it could be an application in the phone that was causing it to happen not a possible failure of the SD card itself

The card contained 11gb of data which included:

All the photographs I had taken using the phone of my nephew but hadn’t had time to back up yet, however fortunately the good ones were on Facebook.
All my Amazon MP3s which I am fortunate to be able to download again once I get a new SD card.
My e-books! All my Kindle ebooks and also the works by a few of my favourite LJ authors, I was able to retrieve from All Romance and Dreamspinner but I couldn’t download Going for Gold anthology. OH HORROR! It is one of my favourites.
But Knowing me I always have some access to the downloaded files and I found that on one of my flash drives. I am so glad I back up my files.
The Amazon Kindle app I have will allow me to download those books again as I bought through Amazon.
Videos, once again some fandom stuff and a couple of movies there but I know where to retrieve those.
And finally my favourite Fandom Fics from A03. I’m just glad I will be able to access them again.

I must say at first I panicked but having sat and thought exactly what I had lost I found I really hadn’t lost all that much it’s just the inconvenience of it all.

So a lesson to from the wise: always back up your files or keep at least a copy.

You can use demo versions - they are functional.

Oh, no!!! Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S3, by chance? Apparently there's an issue with them and the SanDisk microSD cards. Which I found out because I was having issues with mine! It lost/rewrote/corrupted a whole bunch of folders of photos :-( Fortunately I'm obsessive about backing up the card to my laptop so I didn't lose anything (and I started saving my photos to the phone, not the card since I had so many issues with the card)

I'm glad you still have access to most of the things you had on the card. What a horrible pain in the neck!!!

At least l now know l havent done something wrong. have the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 its a great phoneband the first issue lve had in 14 months. I hope l havent jinxed myself now.

Sounds like a design problem with Sandisk cards. Iwould recommend sourcing a new SD card if its happening to you too.

I have a small card in at the moment from my old phone only 256mb so l can still have some of my fics on it.

I tried opening the old one on a pc and it doesnt even register

No, it's definitely not you! It's something with the 32GB cards :-(

Note that these are from almost a year ago, and supposedly Sandisk has fixed whatever the problem is.

I did replace my card, but when I was at the store I forgot that Sandisk was the brand I *didn't* want, and bought one that was on sale. So far it's working OK; we'll see. And I still back up everything obsessively! :-)

Ive already ordered a new disk and not knowing the problem is with the disks l ordered a Sandisk but a 16GB one this time. Only problem is knowing how long the stores or online shops have had them in stock.

Considering how much they cost l might invest in another disk of a different brand

I am so glad you didn't lose TOO much. I lost a whole lot of photos once when Windows corrupted and I had to reinstall... didn't realize it would wipe all the data off my hard drive ans not just the Windows operating system. I don't think Microsoft does that anymore but it's made me very wary of backing up the important things as often as I can.

Dropbox - and places like that - are another way to backup easily and away from your PC/phone etc. I have dropbox on my PC and on my iPhone. I expect it is available on Android too. I must check that out!
