Queens 60th Jubilee
Jun. 16th, 2012 03:59 amThis week The Queen came to Nottingham along with Prince William and Katherine Duchess of Cambridge.
They first visited the Council House for a reception and the crowds of around 35000 people waiting in the Old MArket Square for her to appear on the balcony.
One of the local MP Lillian Greenwood remarked that the Queen told her the cheer from the crowd when she went out onto Council House balcony louder than outside Buckingham Palace.
Their visit was captured by 220 separate images combined to make the equivilent of a 5 billion pixel camera.
To see this photogrpah visit the Daily Mail http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2159265/The-Royal-Familys-visit-Nottingham-captured-huge-FIVE-BILLION-pixel-camera.html it is worth a look
Their second visit was to Vernon Park in Basford to watch part of a children's sports event. The park is the latest to be granted Queen Elizabeth II Fields in Trust status and Prince WIlliam is the patron of this new trust. Both he and her Grace met the crowds and took turns joining in the festivities by throwing foam javelins and starting the childrens races.
This was a spectacular day for our city and we are proud to have been able to receive our loved Royals
Ohh I managed a couple of pictures they will follow shortly
I arrived at Vernon park 2 hours prior to the visit, the crowds were already lining the street awaiting entry. Security was out in force and every one had to have their bags searched and x-rayed and to walk through a security detector. These security precautions did nothing to dampen the entheuism of the crowds of children and parents especially due to the number of proud children taking part in the festivities.
It reminded me of the Silver Jubilee in 1977 when I was a child and how much fun and how proud I felt to see the queen on her visit. I can even remember where my mum, siblings and I stood as the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh drove past.
Congratulation your Majesty on your 60th jubilee, I wish you many more years reign.
