Bulwell is locally pronounced 'Bull-wool', changing the 'well' for 'wool' in local slang terms. The town was named after a bull allegedly struck a sandstone rock causing it to seep water - a well. The name Bulwell came from this
The earliest documented settlements in Bulwell appeared circa 800 A.D. Recorded in the Doomsday book as "Buleuuelle" and classified as a village, Bulwell had developed into an important trading post for all kinds of goods and services
