I really like the colours in this, and the low point of view. Nice how the light sparkles of the snow, and how the lights look like stars. (Do you need any special equipment to make them appear like that? I rarely take pics in the dark, because I don't have proper 'legs' (forgot what they're called, too early to remember everything...) for the camera.)
This makes the orange street lights I usually hate look pretty ^_^
One of the problems I have taking night shots despite having anti vibration on my camera is camera shake so one of the must usually is my tripod but I didn’t have my tripod with me so I found a flat surface and propped up the camera.
Firstly I set the ISO to 100 which I have found helps remove that orange glow from the sodium lights. I changed the white balance settings to add a tungsten/blue element to the image that also reduces the orange of sodium lights.
I set the F stops to 20 which causes the starburst effect on all lights. I did not use the preset starburst feature it looks too phoney.
I then set my camera to manual timer and using my remote control for 22 seconds
That sparkly snow was actually the snow right in front of the lens on the flat surface I used to prop up my camera. The snow was ideal to hold the lens in place.
